En Garde is a mod that makes Minecraft's PVP system more fun while not straying too far from the vanilla PVP mechanics.

Features

Parry

The main feature of this mod is being able to parry attacks:

• While holding a weapon, if you press the keybind (set to R by default), you are now in the blocking stance.
• If another player attacks you while you are parrying, the attack is blocked and your weapon goes on cooldown and you can't parry with it for a set duration.

Weapon attributes

• The range of some weapons has been modified to add more variety to different weapon combinations.
• The speed of some weapons has been changed.
• There is a new attribute called shield size which sets how big of an area your parry blocks.
• There is another new attribute called shield cooldown which determined how long your parry goes on cooldown for after blocking an attack.

All of these attributes are changeable with datapacks.

Weapon reworks

• Mace rework - The vanilla mace is a bit overpowered, so this mod reworks its mechanics:

  • The mace's scaled damage now maxes out at the height of 2.5 blocks.
  • The mace's base damage and range has been increased to make it a more viable weapon on its own for PVP, even without slam attacks.
  • The Mace is now a heavy item, meaning that you hold with 2 hands and can't use your offhand while holding a mace, but when you parry an attack you stun your attacker.

• Spear rework - As cool as the spear is in Minecraft, I don't think it fits well into the game, so its functionality has been modified:

  • The jab and spear attacks have been replaced by the regular Minecraft attack, with a long range.
  • The spear is now throwable like a trident, dealing high damage as a projectile.

• Bow rework - The bow has been reworked slightly to make shooting a bow more realistic and fun:

  • When you right click, instead of the string automatically drawing back like in vanilla, you actually have to scroll your mouse to pull it back.
  • Shots from bows deal a lot more damage if you pull the bow far enough.

Extras

A couple more tweaks have been added, which can be modified in the mod settings

• Durability has now been turned off by default
• Tridents have loyalty by default
• Some vanilla enchants have been removed, and all enchants now only have 1 level
