Hud Keys

Hud Keys is a client-side Minecraft Fabric mod that shows the nine hotbar keybinds and their pressed states beside the hotbar. It reads your configured controls automatically, so rebinding a slot updates its label.

Alpha release

The current release, 1.0-alpha-1, adds new features that have not been extensively tested. Please report bugs or suggestions through GitHub Issues.

Features

• Outlined hotbar key labels with pressed-state feedback.
• Compact names for common modifiers, mouse buttons, and keypad keys, with automatic text fitting for long labels.
• A brief green flash when attacking and switching hotbar slots within one tick (attribute-swapping) feedback on this by good players will be EXTREMELY appreciated.
• Configurable horizontal and vertical offsets, text scale, and visibility of unpressed keys.
• Settings saved in config/hudkeys.json, with an optional Mod Menu settings screen.

Supported Minecraft versions

Choose the matching release from the Versions tab. Snapshots and future Minecraft releases require separate verification.

Corrected 26.1 download: The original Modrinth 26.1 entry was taken down and replaced to fix its embedded compatibility restriction. If you downloaded it, replace it with hudk-mc26.1.x-1.0-alpha-1.jar from the current 26.1.x release.

Installation

1. Install Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer for your Minecraft version.
2. Install Fabric API and Cloth Config, using versions compatible with your Minecraft version. Both are required.
3. Put the matching Hud Keys JAR in your mods/ folder. Install only one Hud Keys JAR; do not install the sources JAR.
4. Optionally install Mod Menu to edit settings in-game. Otherwise edit config/hudkeys.json while Minecraft is closed.
5. Launch Minecraft using the Fabric profile.

Compatibility

Hud Keys runs on the client and does not require server installation. Follow the rules of the server you play on.

A note from the developer

This is my very first Minecraft mod! I created it to learn modding and to make my hotbar keybinds easier to see. Feedback and suggestions are welcome. Thank you for checking it out!
