Void Floors

Place obsidian framed decorative end portal floors and ceilings that look like the void, essentially horizontal portals. Walkable, safe, works in any dimension, and won't teleport you.

Void Floors

Turn any obsidian framed area into a walkable (or overhead) decorative void floor that looks exactly like an End Portal! Without teleporting you anywhere, spawning hostile mobs on it, or requiring anything installed on the client.

What this actually does

Vanilla End Portal blocks instantly teleport any entity that touches them to The End. Void Floors places real End Portal blocks for the visual effect, but intercepts and cancels that teleport specifically for the ones this mod placed... so you get the swirling, starfield look of an End Portal as a safe, walkable floor or ceiling, purely for decoration. Real, naturally-generated End Portals (strongholds, the End's exit portal) are completely unaffected and continue working normally.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.11-1.21.5 (Update coming when 26.3 is released)
  • Fabric Loader + Fabric API
  • Server-side only — players connecting to your server do not need this mod installed on their client. All portal logic (teleport blocking, mob-spawn prevention) runs server-side, and the blocks used are vanilla, so a normal client renders and collides with them correctly.

How to build a portal

  1. Build a frame out of obsidian or crying obsidian, at least 2 sides of the interior touching obsidian (a full rectangular frame works best — same general idea as a vanilla Nether Portal frame, but it can be any size).
  2. Stand inside the frame and right-click any interior block with flint and steel.
  3. The enclosed area fills with End Portal blocks, and (in floor mode) a solid black concrete floor is placed underneath so it's safely walkable.
  4. To remove it, break any of the frame's obsidian/crying obsidian blocks — the portal and its floor are automatically cleared.

Floor mode vs. roof mode

  • Floor mode (default): places a solid floor under the portal layer — walk on it like normal ground.
  • Roof mode: skips the solid floor, intended for overhead/ceiling use where you're looking up at it rather than standing on it. Toggle with the commands below.

Commands

All commands are under /portal:

CommandEffect
/portal roof onEnable roof mode (no floor placed under future portals)
/portal roof offDisable roof mode (floor placed under future portals — default)
`/portal shulkerheight `Fine-tune the vertical alignment of the portal's floor collision (-2.0 to 2.0)
/portal removemobsManually clears any hostile mobs currently near a portal
/portal cleanupHard-resets the mod's internal floor-collision tracking, in case anything gets stuck
/portal infoShows current settings (roof mode, shulker offset, etc.)

Note: these commands aren't OP-restricted by default — if you want to limit who can toggle roof mode or run cleanup, restrict them via your server's permission plugin.

Safety features

  • No accidental teleportation — stepping on or into a mod-placed portal does nothing; only this mod's own portal blocks are affected, real End Portals still work as vanilla intends.
  • No hostile mob spawning on the portal floor — natural spawns are blocked directly rather than relying on despawning mobs after the fact.

Not to be confused with...

There's an older, unrelated mod also called "Horizontal Portals" that adds dimension-connecting portals (Nether/Aether/Eden Ring). This mod is not that — Void Floors is purely decorative and never sends you anywhere.
